Is minoxidil effective for female hair loss?

Minoxidil is the only FDA approved topical treatment for hair loss. Minoxidil comes in two main forms; a liquid and a foam. Minoxidil can be bought under a number of different brands, the most well-known being Regaine (Rogaine in the US).

Men and women can use minoxidil, however, the recommended strength for men should not exceed 5%, and for women it should be a maximum of 2%.  Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid using this treatment.

Minoxidil can be purchased under countless brands, but all the treatments should have exactly the same effect.  Brands such as Kirkland offer users a cheaper alternative to the more expensive brands like Regaine/Rogaine and Foligain.

When shopping for minoxidil, one should go on the price, than that the brand. All minoxidil is the same, therefore, to save money, it would be wise to opt for the cheaper brand.

Minoxidil has shown to help reduce hair loss, and promote the function of hair growth. Minoxidil is not a cure for hair loss, but it can steady the pattern of fall, as well as encourage the hair to grow.

What is more effective: Minoxidil Liquid or Minoxidil Foam?

It should not matter what brand or texture of minoxidil you use, whether it is liquid or foam, minoxidil works to the same effect.  Foam is more popular of the two types, because it tends to try almost instantly, whereas the liquid can take up to an hour to dry out, making the hair look greasy and flat.

Does minoxidil support hair growth?

It should be noted that minoxidil is not a cure for female (or male) baldness, but it can stimulate hair growth, to a certain extent.  Results vary with each individual, with some users experiencing new hair growth after just two months.

Other users did not see clear results until two years of using the treatment.  Minoxidil can be a long waiting game, so patience is absolutely key. Also, minoxidil does not work for everyone who uses it, therefore one should be realistic about its results.

Minoxidil can also be used in conjunction with potent hair vitamins or hair stimulating serums and shampoos.  However, as a precautionary measure, be sure to check with your doctor before mixing potent treatments.

What are the side-effects of minoxidil?

Like any drug or medical treatment, minoxidil can come with negative side-effects. Some of the more common side-effects found from using minoxidil are; headaches, dizziness, skin rash, fatigue, weight gain, and sore joints. Most people only experience minor sides, but some can be more severe, and long term. Caution is advised.

A common side-effect of minoxidil is excessive hair shedding, during early stages of use. This can be hugely concerning, but fear not, it is a natural process, and the shedding will eventually stop.

What is the safe alternative to minoxidil?

If, like many women, you are not keen on the idea of using medical treatments for hair loss, then there are some safe and natural alternatives to consider.

One of the more potent and effective options is keratinocyte growth factor.

Keratinocyte growth factor can, and is, used as a treatment for hair loss in both men and women. There are a select number of Keratinocyte growth factor based hair loss treatments that are available on the market, with the most common being in topical application form.

Keratinocyte growth factor is seen to be most effective when used in a serum. Keratinocyte growth factor based serums have been shown to help reduce hair fall, and encourage hair growth and hair regrowth in men and women who suffering from common hair loss conditions.

If you’d prefer to avoid topical solutions completely, then there’s the option of hair supplements like HR23+ and Viviscal, which can help prevent excessive shedding, and promote normal hair growth.
